Erykah Badu ’New Amerykah’: An Edgy Sweet Experience

On Tuesday Feb 27th a New Amerykah was delivered to the world via Miss Badu! This new Amerykah is a melting pot: part 70’s cool funk and part 80s raw hip hop. Edgy and sweet, it is an experience to say the least! If you skip over the few speeches and gun shoot interludes you have a near perfect concept album.

The concept album for sure is making a come back from some of our more established artist, like Erykah and they are doing them well! Songs like "Telephone" and "Me" really have the element of soul and funk you would expect from the Foxy Brown soundtrack! While tracks like "Twinkle" have such a heavy hip hop beat, it’s amazing to see all the places this album will take you.

I would compare it to Jay-Z’s American Gangster mostly because when "Blue Magic" came out I was not impressed and the same was true for me and honey. It was not the out the box track banger I expected from a come back record. However like American Gangster, it takes a full listen to the whole album to get into Erykah’s world. Once you do, you won’t ever want to go back to yours.
